Are you a woman who has a great idea for a business but struggles with making the decision to start or has given up on the dream because:
- You have dismissed the idea of starting your business because of the amount of capital you believe is required to start the business.
- You have you felt that starting a business was not possible for you because your husband is in the military or has another type of employment that requires the family to relocate frequently.
- You believe that starting a business would make it difficult to balance your role as a wife, mother, and/or student.
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, keep reading!
I had the pleasure of meeting with the Tanika Brooks, the owner of Honey Bea Hive recently. Tankia is quite the entrepreneur. She successfully balances marriage, a new baby, college, and her company Honey Bea Hive. Tanika’s unrelenting love for earrings and accessories began in high school. When she decided to take her love to accessorize to the next level and become an entrepreneur she was newly married, on her way to becoming a new mother, and had $500 to start her business.
Her business, Honey Bea Hive, specializes in making one of a kind, handmade earrings and accessories. Her motto, “Honey Bea Hive is the everyday earring for the not so average woman.” Her earrings and bows are made to order and come in a variety of fabrics and styles. If you have ever had the pleasure of viewing her merchandise you would see why this slogan is true , if not view here!
Entrepreneurship has allowed Tanika great flexibility in her professional life. She is able to plan her professional activities around her responsibilities as a mother, wife and student. Her husband is in the U.S. Marine Corps, which often calls for frequent relocation. To combat this issue, Tanika has created her business to be highly mobile so it can follow her around the globe! She also saves tons of money that would have been spent on daycare if she was an employee with little to no control over her time.
You have the power to take what you love to do and turn it into a profitable business as long as there is a market for it. Don’t let your dream fade away becaue you perceive you lack money or time. Do your research and find out how others in your market started on their road to entreprenuership. You may be surprised at what you learn! Dedication, research and commitment can turn your dream into reality!
